Sarah E. Swank, Esquire is a principal in Ober | Kaler’s Health Law Group based in the Washington, DC office and co-founder of the Ober | Kaler Health Care General Counsel Institute. She provides advice and guidance on a wide range of health law issues, including clinical research and IRBs, HIPAA/HITECH, health information technology, ACOs and the Affordable Care Act. Sarah works with clients to navigate the complex and changing legal framework facing health care entities today and to guide them through business and strategic planning issues. Before joining Ober | Kaler, Ms. Swank was Associate General Counsel of Trinity Health, one of the largest health care systems in the country and was assigned to oversee the legal department of Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. While at Holy Cross Hospital, Ms. Swank advised the Board of Trustees and executive leadership, as well as the IRB Chair and IRB members on health law issues, including in the areas of clinical research, the Common Rule, FDA and HIPAA. She started her career as a managed care and government affairs attorney in New York with a focus on policy, privacy and security, managed contracting and health care transactions. Ms. Swank speaks and writes nationally on issues such as IRBs, HIPAA/HITECH, telemedicine and ACOs.
