Maureen K. Brinkman, MS, BSN, is a Registered Nurse who worked in various operating rooms in 6 states over 27 years, including a career in the military and service in Vietnam. In 1994 she became a research nurse at the University of Utah where she coordinated adult and pediatric industry-sponsored, NIH and investigator-initiated clinical trials. Her career included diverse roles such as an instructor of nursing, a research instructor of Good Clinical Practices, an auditor and an IRB compliance officer. She served on the IRB at the University of Utah for more than 10 years and retired in 2011 after being nominated by her colleagues and chosen to receive one of the Universitys District Staff Service Awards. Maureen joined ACRP and became certified as soon as she was eligible to take the certification exam. She was a founding member of the Salt Lake Area Chapter of ACRP and coordinated the effort to bring the first Certification Exam to Salt Lake City. Now she is a Hospice volunteer in southern California and the grandmother of a 7 year old with the rare disease, Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP). She is a member of the Research Committee for the International FOP Association (IFOPA) working to find a treatment and cure for this very disabling condition.
