Ms. Lynette Westbrook RN, MS, CCRC

Lynette Weigelt Westbrook has over 25 years experience in Adult Cardiovascular nursing, with 23 of the years in clinical research as a research coordinator of phase I, II, III, and IV studies. Ms. Westbrook began her nursing career at Baylor Hospital in Dallas in the cardiac surgery, medical ICU and Oncology bone marrow transplant units. She begain working clinical research at UT Southwestern / Dallas in the cardiovascular field. Ms. Westbrook continued her clinical research at University of Texas Medical School at Houston 21 years ago to continue helping with cardiac research .She has been certified as a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator for 16 years. She began working with the Stem Cell Center at the Texas Heart Institute 7years ago. During these 7 years, her responsibilities have included helping write new protocols, developing new INDs using autologous stem cells, helping develop a research team of experienced nurses and assistants to perform stem cell clinical research, communicating with the FDA on regulatory issues on clinical studies, and establishing a plan for monitoring and data management. Ms. Westbrook has been working with the Cardiovascular Cell Therapy Research Network (funded by the NHLBI) since 2006. She has also been a member of the IRB at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston for 7 years. Ms. Westbrook has helped develop a training series for research coordinators and new investigators at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, and she has lectured at numerous nursing venues about good clinical practice in research and stem cell research in end stage heart, as well as acute myocardial infarction, and peripheral vascular disease.
