Institutional Review Board Services

Jack Corman worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 20 years in various capacities, including General Manager, before founding Institutional Review Board Services (IRBS), an independent research ethics review service, in 1993. Since that time, IRBS and its IRBs have reviewed studies all phases of research, including thousands of Phase 1 trials, from BA/BE to first-in-humans, involving both patients and normal healthy volunteers in Canada and the US. Mr. Corman has had a long-standing interest in business and research ethics. He is a member of the Canadian Business Ethics Research Network, and Executive Member the National Council on Ethics in Human Research (NCEHR). He also was a voting member of the Health Canada supported Experts Committee on Human Participant Protection in Canada, and currently is member on the Canadian General Standards Board Committee to Establish a Standard for REBs that Review Biomedical Research, and the only independent IRB representative. He is a Member of the Canadian Association of Research Ethics Boards (CAREB), Canadian Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (CSPT), the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP), and the Drug Information Association (DIA), In addition to Canadian research subject protection volunteer work, he is Executive Member of the US Consortium of Independent Review Boards (CIRB).
