Charles Alexander MD, CPI (Hon)

Dr. Charles M. Alexander is Senior Director, Global Medical Affairs supporting the Diabetes & Obesity and Atherosclerosis/Cardiovascular Areas with a focus on diabetes. He joined Merck in 1992 as an Associate Director in U.S. Medical Services and moved to U.S. Outcomes Research and Management as a Director in 1996. During that time, he gained valuable experience in outcomes research and disease management in many therapeutic areas including cholesterol, atherosclerosis, hypertension, osteoporosis, and diabetes. Promoted to Senior Director in 2005, he moved to Global Outcomes Research in 2007, where he was responsible for all of the diabetes products. In 2008, he moved first to U.S. Outcomes Research in March and then to Global Medical Affairs in November.

Dr. Alexander received his medical degree from the University of Southern California and did his postgraduate training (internal medicine/endocrinology) at LAC/USC Medical Center, Los Angeles. Prior to joining Merck, he practiced diabetes, endocrinology and internal medicine in Los Angeles for ten years where he was also Clinical Professor of Medicine of the USC School of Medicine. Dr. Alexander is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology-Metabolism and is a Fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Endocrinology. He is the author of numerous scientific articles and presentations.
