Carolyn Darmiento has been working in the pharmaceutical industry for 20+ years due to my passion about delivering important medications to patients in need. Her journey started as a Quality Control Microbiologist at a small pharmaceutical company in New York. After about 2 years, she relocated to New Jersey for a better job opportunity at another company. It was during this time that she realized that she did not want to work in the lab ‘forever’ – her real passion was clinical research - so she pursued my Master’s degree in Clinical Investigation which opened up the door to my first clinical research opportunity at a small pharmaceutical company. Over the last 16 years, she has worked across multiple therapeutic areas (neuroscience, cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolism, and rare diseases) at various pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies ranging from small to large pharma. As a Study Manager at Merck for half of this time, she feels that I am finally where I belong.
