Albert Yen

My name is Albert Yen and I am an Associate Medical Writer at Merck. I have a Bachelor of Science from UCLA and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Washington, both in bioengineering. While in school, I trained as a bench scientist and studied the use of biomaterials for drug delivery. My doctoral dissertation research was focused on cancer nanovaccines. During summer 2020, I interned in Merck’s Medical Writing department and was inspired to pursue a medical writing career. Medical writers at Merck author documents that support clinical research activities and the regulatory approval of investigational products. These documents include clinical study protocols, clinical study reports, and informed consent forms. As an entry-level Associate Medical Writer, I am developing my medical writing skills by participating in a departmental apprenticeship program. This program provides me with foundational knowledge necessary to succeed as a regulatory medical writer. When I started college, I had no idea the medical writing profession existed. In this presentation, I will highlight my career journey and share my medical writing experience to date.
